I have ripple editing disabled. Is there a setting in Preferences that allows you to move video along the timeline?

Hello there! I'm VERY new to all of this and would like the assistance of the users here if possible. This is probably a very, very, very atrociously stupid question and I apologize in advance :P

I have some captures of tapes from the cancelled video game "Sonic X-treme" that were posted 10 or so years ago on a now defunct forum thread by a former developer, before it is asked I obviously do NOT have the actual tapes themselves nor would I have any way of re-capturing them.

Thankfully, two of three are in relatively good condition AFAIK, and only need a color correction (and removing the audio in one case since it was just silence).

Original:

[Attachment 91830 - Click to enlarge]

Color Correction:

[Attachment 91831 - Click to enlarge]

However, the last tape is where I'm having trouble, and this is why I've come here.

[Attachment 91832 - Click to enlarge]

It's in a VERY poor state. It has the washed out colors of the other 2, but on top of that the audio track is very tinny sounding and cut off at the beginning (I've manually corrected this using an upload of the song by the original composer--it's in MP3, sadly, but I assure you ANYTHING is better than how the original sounds by a long shot lol), and the quality has degraded severely compared to the other 2--take a look at Sonic or the numbers at the top of the screen! One of the biggest issues is the flashing bar at the top of the screen, it's very distracting and doesn't show up in any of the other tapes.

I have VirtualDub2 and StaxRip on my hands (I couldn't get AviSynth working nicely with my setup + these AVI files due to their encoding, plus I have ZERO clue what I'm doing lol), and I was wondering what steps would be needed to at least get this to a nicer standard of quality before I start with color correction? I won't be doing any deinterlacing on this just yet (I'm not confident in my ability to do that, plus I'd like to keep that in since it's authentic :P), I just want to get this to a cleaner result before I start work on a CC. I absolutely do NOT want to crop out anything or something similarly destructive.

I've attached a small snippet of the tape to this post...hopefully it should be enough to get the ball rolling but if not I can provide more clips. The full video is too big for it to be uploaded here sadly. Please be aware due to limitations involving editing software this has deinterlacing automatically applied...nothing I can do there. Try to ignore it.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
Is there anyone who can help me how to download videos from xvast browser?
You can download videos from xvast but they play only on your xvast browser after license verification. Tried to capture link with fiddler classic but all in vain. You can open id on only one device, if you tried to login on another pc your id will block automatically. To unblock you need to contact admin.
I don't want to screen record since the videos are too long and recording takes alot of time. I purchased this from institute but course deadline is about to near end. I will greatly appreciate the people of this forum in this help.
I read alot of thread but there is not a single thread to address this.

Regarding xvast browser you can't add extensions on it. So, stream detector is also not working.
Please anyone can help me. I will share my id password with you in dm if you want.

Thanks

I did stabilize some handheld footage (no Discussion to buy a gimbal, its not about that so just let it be pls).

After stabilizing you can see that some frames are sharp and some are not (maybe you have to watch frame by frame to see it). The problem is, stabilizing or sharpening can't fix that difference. I tried RVRT deblur from hybrid (or selur did it for me) and i did not like it. I hoped it would be good, but when you watch frame by frame it looks AI-ish. I even like the blurry frame more than the "sharp" AI-Deblur. Im not sure, if this is maybe because it was deblurred before stabilizing, but on my end it does not work so i can't test for now.

So i really tried to find sth "traditional" (non-AI), but i did not find anything. So do you know any method to make blurry motion blur-frames as sharp as the sharper ones in the video (or at least a bit closer), but without looking AI-ish? As i said: Im only interested in post-processing and not in changeing capture-methods. I will just ignore every answer who tries it anyway to give me capture-tips.

I will upload the original footage and one which i did stabilize.

ps: I know i could stabilize more but i wanted to make the movement more natural and did not want to have to much crop.

What is this emerald coast digitizing youtuber doing?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XXM0sfiGLM
This Youtube video is of Sean from emerald coast digitizing, he is using sellotape on a snapped VHS, this will damage the head of the VCR and is bad practice right? I've read that splicing tape should be used

He is using Macs and elcr*po capture cards the only thing he is doing right is, he is passing into a dvd recorder which lord calls a poor mans TBC. This guy needs to be called out

Another guy is got memories Phill he is so arrogant and now we have another young player in the market.

What is this guy life time memories doing?

Another copy cat of Phill got memories and Sean this guy is Life time memories digitizing
Video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDssijd8zKw&pp=ygUdbGlmZXRpbWUgbWVtb3JpZXMgZGlnaXRpemluZyA%3D

This Youtube video is of Chris from life time memories he is using OBS for capture, no TBC, no dvd recorder passing through the chain, what message is this cheap set up giving the general public?

Experts on videohelp and digital faq talk about capturing from SVHS VCRS mostly, JVC or Panasonic, TBC mostly datavideo or AVT or a TBC ISH set up for the budget conscious
SVHS VCR non_tbc with a datavideo dvk 100 or 200 and a Panasonic es-10 or 15.

None of these Youtube guys come close to any of the recommend equipment in these forums, when people like me see these videos and start thinking why don't we all capture cheaply and save money?

Some people capture using the cheap Chinese HDMI scaler things on Amazon with a cheap HDMI capture card.

Some people also cut out the PC, capture card, TBC altogether and recommend recording to a DVD recorder with an LSI chip lord smurth recommendeds JVC models if doing this but I'm not sure if he still recommends it in 2026?

Is lossless really the best method for VHS capture?

Should a lossy method like DV be accepted?
Should a dvd recorder method be accepted? record on a LSI DVD recorder then rip the DVD in handbrake?

Why did DVD recorders not catch on for recording like VCRS did?
Since most of the professional recommended equipment is not available to buy, how many people are going to bother to find it and pay what people are asking for?

I think people should at least record memories on dvd recorder, at least the memories are not lost rather than wait for ages to find the right equipment.

Even the experts don't agree on equipment
Capture cards one person says hauppage live 2 USB is very good, another expert says it has had production changes, same with the diamond VC 500, people are very happy with io data GV-USB2 but one expert says it's not good.

Someone who is a newbie doesn't get any clear answers and he has to wait not knowing how much money he or she is going to be spending.

I made a script to download a playlist from a YouTube channel as a single JSON file, then automatically edit it as a plain text list. It's based on yt-dlp and sfk which I mentioned there. Attached are the script itself in its current state, and an example of a plain text list generated with it.

1) Would it be possible to also get the upload date just as quickly and conveniently?
I made quite extensive tests months ago, and found out that:
– using “--flat-playlist --write-pages --dump-single-json” allows to quickly create a JSON file containing, for all videos available on a channel (even those with restricted access), their link, their title, their duration, the number of views, but not the upload date (also for “shorts” there is no duration, only the number of views, which seems less precise than for “regular” videos);
– using something like:

Code:

yt-dlp %link% --skip-download --print %%(id)s --print %%(upload_date)s --print %%(duration_string)s --print %%(title)s >>"%channel_id%.txt"

allows to get the upload date, and many other available fields with the --print option, but it's much slower (~5s of processing for each video so it can take hours for a large channel), videos in restricted access are skipped (unless using --cookies to get videos with an age limit), and it can cause a temporary ban (less likely to happen when using --cookies but it's probably bound to happen as well when processing hundreds of videos in a row).

2) I added replacement formulas for characters encoded as “\u####”, those found in a few lists, plus a few more that could be expected (in French language in particular). Considering that the “####” code corresponds to the character's ASCII code (for instance [hex] 00E9 => [dec] 233, ALT+0233 => é), would there be a way to systematically convert those “\u####” codes to the corresponding character?

3) Could it be improved in any other way? (I only made a few tests, perhaps it won't work well with other channels.)
Or are there existing scripts / tools doing the same thing more efficiently and/or more reliably?
