Good morning everyone.

For several years I've been trying to remaster a file for which I've asked for help here a few times, but due to lack of time I ended up putting it off. Anyway, I believe I've gotten closer to what I wanted, considering the limitations of the low source quality (except for some vertical lines that appear on the dancer's arm; I can't remove them without destroying the details. If anyone has a script that works for the video, I would appreciate it).

Well, my biggest problem is with the final encoding, because I wanted to lose as little quality as possible, but I noticed that when choosing any encoder with a color space other than RGB, besides destroying the grain and leaving the skin looking waxy or rubbery, it adds some terrible artifacts, even if I increase the grain for YUV encoding.

Finally, the playback speed of the Largarith Lossless codec, which should be at the desired quality, has a bug (slow-motion playback).

Is there any solution for this?

I'm attaching a video that shows the playback speed issue and some screenshots comparing RGB quality with YUV quality.
The artifact appears consistently around candlelight in night scenes, as well as along high-contrast edges in daylight. Here are a few examples

[Attachment 92469 - Click to enlarge]

[Attachment 92471 - Click to enlarge]

[Attachment 92472 - Click to enlarge]

[Attachment 92473 - Click to enlarge]

[Attachment 92474 - Click to enlarge]

I'm not entirely sure of the correct term – it may be related to “purple flare” or chromatic aberration. It’s very distracting and seriously degrades the viewing experience.

[Attachment 92475 - Click to enlarge]

[Attachment 92476 - Click to enlarge]

The same clips frequently suffer from a related dark edge problem. For example, candle flames often show a dark line on one side and a purple fringe on the other – extremely annoying.

I'm looking for an effective method/workflow that can remove these artifacts. I will provide a short test video; you only need to process the segments shown in the screenshots (no need to run the entire clip).

test video clip
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kmni1sN9k-MgslyiIPKpLyqF2k-zTaMK/view?usp=sharing

Key requirements:

Minimize luma (Y) channel processing as much as possible, and avoid noticeable detail loss. Ideally, the Y channel should be left mostly untouched, but limited processing is acceptable if it doesn’t degrade fine details significantly. This step serves as a pre-processing module before an AI model handles detail restoration, so preserving image information is critical.

Please note: the test source has been badly upscaled (not by me – I received it this way). You are free to downscale it if necessary.

If your solution meets my requirements, I'll pay $50 USD. Please provide a clear workflow (script, filter chain, or detailed steps) that I can apply.

Hello, I am looking to download a few samples of raw VHS captures eg from an old movie camera etc, preferably some with interlaced content and some without.

I have a JVC VHS-C to DVD box, where the DVD can be separately ripped into a .mpg, however I hope someone here perhaps has a library of raw captures (or .mpgs like that) which I can use to test ?

Vapoursynth R76+ new versions will eventually cause older non API-v4 plugins to cease to work, and I used the venerable CNR2 to denoise chroma.

So ... I am knocking up a roughie script as a CNR2 replacement with "modern" denoising plugins and deinterlacer and perhaps even a deblocker (the JVS introduces terrible blocking) all being done in the right orders. eg bm3dcpu for denoising plane(s), bwdif for optional deinterlacing. It should auto-detect and deal with incoming interlacement and other properties and yield a choice of interlaced or deinterlaced (if the original was interlaced) in the incoming format.

The CNR2 replacement script may end up being crap, but one never knows until one tries.

Thank you in advance.

Not sure if this is the right spot for this post, but here’s my question. I’ve successfully recapped my es10 with much advisement from our community, thank you all. Now I’m interested in having these most common caps on hand to get similar repairs underway without having to place single orders of random individual caps and waiting for them to arrive. Can anyone point me to a series of kits with common uF and voltage ratings that will be a good start to have available? I thought after I had this setup, if I needed something out of the ordinary, I’d just order 3-5 at that time Ang continue to build the inventory. Any help and thoughts would be appreciated.
