I *am* using movie only mode, but I am NOT using the newest AutoGK (still on 2.27). Have there been reports of the new version handling sync issues better?
As for VdubMod, I did indeed familiarize myself with the offset features. However, after trying to be as precise as possible (establishing the number of frames difference between A and V, dividing by 24, converting that to Miliseconds, etc etc etc) I canNOT get it right!! -
maybe I am referring to one aspect of VdubMod and you are referring to another - in fact I know this is the case, because VdubMod does not have an audio menu, and what I was doing was in an audio menu - so what i was doing was in virtualdub (regular) as well as the MP3 Freeze version. Please tell me what you are referring to in VdubMod and i will give it a try!
Thanks! -
Hi-
Have there been reports of the new version handling sync issues better?
Yes, earlier versions were more likely to have synch issues:

This is not to say you won't have any, though. But if RipIt4Me is used correctly, it's supposed to remove all the junk cells that cause these problems. I don't work with new films usually, so haven't seen these problems personally. Almost all DVDs with which I work can be handled just fine using DVD Decrypter.
So, to fix audio synch issues. This is going to assume you have a constant asynch, that it's off by the same amount all the way through. Progressive asynch, where it gets worst as the movie goes along, is caused by something else. Don't ever do any MP3 editing in VDub, especially if the MP3 is VBR. I don't know if you made CBR MP3 audio or not, but the default is for ABR (a kind of VBR audio). Or maybe it's AC3 audio. You haven't said. What follows is for using VDubMod to change the delay:
Open the AVI in Media Player Classic. Right-click the screen and go Options->Filter->Audio Switcher->check the "audio time shift" box, and fill in an estimate of the amount of asynch. Hit "Apply" and test it out. Negative values are to make the audio play earlier. 1000 ms= 1 second. Resume playback. Adjust until you get it right. At that point you'll know how much the audio is out of synch and how much to set the delay in VDubMod. Then open the AVI in VDubMod, set the Video for Direct Stream Copy, go Streams->Stream List->Right-click the audio->Interleaving->Audio Skew Correction, and set the same delay as you found using MPC. OK your way out of there, go File->Save As, give it a new name, wait a minute or 2, and test it out.
When all done, either uncheck the box or set the audio time shift back to 0 in MPC. -
I just got done trying to convert "The Da Vinci Code" today, and the a/v sync gets worse as the movie goes on. Does anyone know a good way to combat this (or rather, to repair the file after it has already been finished converting?)? This is the same issue I had with Memoirs Of A Geisha, but with that one I just gave up. This one I am more interested in seeing it through.
Thanks -
If the asynch gets worse as the movie goes along, then perhaps all the unreferenced cells weren't removed. You can check on that by opening the DVD in VobBlanker, double-click the movie in the upper screen, double-click it in the lower screen, and then check in the new screen for little tiny cells without either much length or size. If you find them, then you'll know why your AutoGK rip is no good. You'll have to run the vobs through FixVTS to get rid of all the junk, and then use AutoGK again.
Since others have handled Memoirs of a Geisha successfully (don't know about The DaVinci Code), my guess is that you're doing something wrong, probably at the decrypting stage. -
SO, VOBBlanker doesn't actually modify the VOBs, it merely inspects them - right?
What I am doing now is re-ripping The DaVinci Code DVD using RipIt4Me. I am ripping in Movie Only mode. When ripping is complete, I will let FixVTS do its thing (fairly certain I skipped this step both with MOAG as well as TDVC). When this is complete, I am ready to convert to xvid in AutoGK 2.37 (updated to the latest beta version per others' suggestions).
Does this all look correct to you? -
I deleted the rip after the conversion was done because I was in a pinch for HD space (I was doing the conversion at work). That situation resolved itself but I had to re-rip anyway. The conversion is going right now; I will post when it is complete. Thanks for all your help!!

Whew! Bet that's a load off your mind. Mine, too. I was about out of ideas. Good going. Now you can go back and do Memoirs again, too.
