Ulead DVD Movie Factory...

in using ulead movie factory,
I chose to import a mpeg1 movie i had already made rather than get from digital camcorder again .
Then i used there edit to batch covert it too mpeg2 im hoping when it finished i will be able to burn it to a supervcd or to a dvd+rw disc or both

#1 can this happen can i burn it to either

#2 how long does encoding it from mpeg1 too mpeg 2 usually take the the mpeg1 was about 44 mins in length

Hi

just installed ulead movie factory......Have captured an mpeg file using the snazzy capture card made by dazzle......opened movie factory.....selected mpeg file....added titles and chapters....tested ok with the remote preview.....went to burn as vcd...using win 98 and a 16x plextor burner...followed all settings as recommended from the help site....getting to stage 3 of 5.....finishes creating image file.......then getting error......"unable to read from a file"....has anyone come across this error and been able to work out what this means...any ideas

I have been experiencing a major problem with DVD moviefactory . I have recorded a small VCD clip with PowerVCR 3.0 from the TV card . The clip plays well in PowerVCR and windows media player . However , when I open the file with ulead DVD moviefactory the audio gets out of sync . I have already tried all guides available at VCDHelp , but none of them worked . It seems that the video is a little slower than it should be but the audio speed is ok . When the clip starts (at any point, not only at the beggining) both audio and video are in sync , but almost immediately they start to get out of sync. Could anyone help me ?

I hope somebody can help me out. I am using this product and I love it so far, but I have encountered a problem. I have used Tmpgenc to encode to dvd compliant MPEG 2. The source was vob files that I converted using dvd2avi. The dvd compliant mpeg plays fine on the computer, but when I burn it to DVD with menus using ulead dvd movie factory, the video is not right. Jumpy is the word that describes it. I'm not sure if this is a Tmpgenc problem or ulead. I've tried letting ulead re-encode the Mpeg and that looked even worse. Any suggestions.

I'm looking for help with burning a VCD.

I have used both the Roxio product and Ulead DVD Movie Factory. I have burn't VCD on CD-R and CD-RW. I have done this at 1X and 2X. But I always end up with a disk that when I play it on my CurtisMathes DVD Player that supports CDE-R,CD-RW, and VCD, I get blotchy, pixelated videos, and screen noise in the Ulead Menus. The output looked fines on the Ulead simulated player prior to burn.

Like I said I've tried 2 programs, low speed burns, 2 types of media.

Any ideas on how to improve the playback.

I've had great results using Ulead just to do menus and burn. I captured with AIW128, edited in iEdit, re-encoded in TMPEGEnc using the standard DVD template. Ulead burned it perfectly, looks and works great in my Philips 711. The program crashes when you seek fro another thumbnail too much. Get around that by saving a lot. When I tried to burn a SVCD from TMPEGEnc, the program said it wasn't compliant. Then I re-encoded with Ulead, and it still said it wasn't compliant. Then I re-started the program and suddenly it was happy with my first file and I burned the disc. Nice menus for little effort.

Hello,
I just got Ulead DVD Movie Factory and actually made a VCD
that plays on my DVD player. However, there is one thing I am
not sure of. When it asks you about CD/DVD recorder,
I am not sure what to pick. I made my VCD with
the second choice which is my burner. Is is better
to use the Ulead burner? I used a mpg that I had
gotten with my Mavica camera. It is a little blurry
when I play it on my DVD player. I tried burning
with the Ulead one but it gave me a error reading
just before it finished although it did burn to the
CD. Can someone help me about which is best to use?
I am using the trial version, but I am going to buy
the regular one.
Also, one of other question. When I installed the trial
version, it ask me what format I wanted I could have
the VHS or the Pal and I chose VHS. But my wife has
some relatives where they only can use Pal. Is there
a way to go back and change the format?

HI....Last morning i made vcd with Ulead. In 99 % process burning he gives me an error...but my cds plays ok....but now i cant burn from nothing....In all process that i do he gives me the answer
--- failed to record data to cd-----
or
--- failed in performing power calibration----

What am i doing wrong ????
Before this, i burn an audio cd to check the cd writer and its ok...
Im using win98se and cd writer hp 8200

kiko, you might just want to create an image file and use another program to burn it. Make sure that your drive works at all since it sounds like a drive malfunction. The NTI-plugin isn't the best, so it could be the problem

So many questions, so few answers... This is a good program for the price, but its VERY buggy.

How to burn Ulead DMF-image ?

1.You can use isobuster to convert the .ixa to .bin (in Track 1, extract as bin)

2.Use vcdxrip (or vcdeasy ) to extract the bin file to get the videocd.xml and associated mpg files.

3.Use vcdxbuld (or vcdeasy) to generate the .bin/.cue files.

4.Use CDRDAO or CDRWIN or Firburn or Nero to burn the .bin/.cue file.

ps:I always use DMF to generate image first, and use vcdimager to modify the play sequence or add iso-files or mpg files.

Most Ulead software is VERY tricky to use. Normally, you should do a fresh install of the OS to make the Ulead software run OK, and not install any other video software on the PC.

Hi Guys,

I have been trying this prog too - and very good it is, as far as it goes. It is better than the other Ulead offering DVD Workshop, in that it will accept X(S)VCD and DVD input MPG files encoded elsewhere - Workshop seems constrained to absolutely compliant streams AND only allows 70min CDs - even tho you are supposed to be able to edit new templates.

Sadly, while Workshop comes with far more templates than Factory, they are not the same format - even tho some of them are identical on screen

I have managed to burn multi-level menus that work well in 2 different standalone dvd players, but a thirdthat I tried does not like the output - instead of playing the intro/menu sequence, it just plays the audio from the menu page <grr> so, it could be that "incompatibilities" are not all down to the product.

One minor gripe - I use XP and was having some probs with DVD Factory, so downloaded & applied some of the fixes on their website - now I get major probs when trying to burn (CDR-B1300P) which offers 2 burning drivers - the original Ulead one (which used to work OK) that now fails every time with a "failed power adjustment setting" or some such error, and one from NTI - which now thankfully does work.

Overall, compared to the opposition (VCDEasy and TSCV) this is a very easy to use product and, probably for casual use, well worth the investment. Before deciding to purchase, however, I will be having one more go with VCDEasy to see if I can get that to work;-)

I have captured authored and burnt a couple of DVD's with DVD factory and the sound has either come out of sync after approx 5 mins getting gradually worse or no sound at all.Any ideas?

this seems like a sweet program for creating dvd's, but i have one question about the chapters. You said they weren't "true" chapters and that you can't use the skip buttons on your dvd remote while watching and can only access them from the menu, well how can you make "true" chapters then???

Just some notes for comparison of products:
Videopack 4 (extension of Winoncd 3.x) was extremely capable for creating complex vcd menus. It had the whole flowchart thing going but had some problems (like it was old and didn't support my burner).

Unfortunately, roxio took over winoncd (and videopack) and the new videopack 5 seems to be a step backwards from 4. Not surprising, considering that Roxio (formerly of adaptec) makes Easy Hard Drive Eraser (also called easy cd creator -- but considering it made a grand old time of crashing my computer and corrupting my hard drive randomly, I don't really consider them a viable player in the cd burning business). I haven't used videopack 5 much, but it didn't seem spectacular.

UDMF seems like a decent program, but it still doesn't have the features or quality of the free programs on the market (for capture, edit and encode).

VirtualDub and TEMPGenc (I've heard cinemacraft is good for svcd) are the only way to go (for VfW capture) for quality capture, editing, and encoding. Then use another program to author it as a menued vcd. I don't know why no commercial product (that I've seen) can approach the versatility and quality of encoding that you get with free programs, but I believe it all boils down to ease of use (grandpa doesn't want options. He can't tell the difference between high and low quality. He just wants his vcd!!!)

I have downloaded the Trial (which apparently is the FULL version but time limited) but when I try to add in a 10gig MPEG2 stream (44mins) the program states that it is 599seconds long and will process that ok. Is this just a demo limitation (I havent been able to see anyothing to that effect on the ULEAD site).

looks like the 2GB/9Min+ DV Type-2 trap.
If this is not your case, how/ into what format did you capture the footage ?
I was using the Trial version for movies > 2 hours withou probs (but only DV Type-1)

My complaint with DVD MF is that there is no front end control of the capture device. I have a BT 8x8 chip, and Ulead interfaces it in preview mode. Therefore , you cannot capture over 240 lines of resolution ( requires toggling to preview mode, as can be done with VirtualDub.)

Ah, I had forgotten about that. I use a Sony VIAO machine and using XP. Capturing via firewire using the Sony batch capture application and editing in Premiere LE. I do remember that there is an application that converts from Type 2 to type 1 DV - I will have a search for that and try again.

I would recommend the DVApp by MS fro direct type-1 capture.I'm using this proggie for 1 year without any probs.
This prog is free and included in the DirectX 8.x SDK.

My schedule has finally cleared up and I'm making VCDs again, and still using the DVD Movie Factory as one of my primary tools. I have found that I'm getting better encoding with TMPGenc, in general. BUT, I made some 640 x 480 animations (AVI with Cinepack codec, using about 5 keyframes per second to keep the lip syncing tight) in Poser 4 and TMPGenc wouldn't encode them. Ulead DVD Factory would. Very odd. I wound up rediting the clips in Premier, anyway (needed advanced audio layering, etc.), and then outputting the reultant file as a single AVI. I then used TMPGenc to convert it to MPEG, and then the DVD Movie Factory to make the VCD.

All in all, this is a neat little tool that fits nicely into my workflow.

I have downloaded the trial version of MovieFactory and ran into a problem. I have some MP2 files that I created by capturing them from my VCR via an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 Pro card.
When I try and open the mpeg files to bring them into MovieFactory, it says they aren't compliant.
What gives?
