Regarding your CD drive, try getting a CD Lens cleaner, it might help it, if not, check if this problem occours only through Windows, cause if it still reads CD's in DOS (Bootable CD's for example) then the problem is somewhere in Windows.
Regarding the missing DLL, have you installed anything lately ? are you by any chance located in Israel and have installed the BezeqNet CD ?

Hi
Your problem is probable the brand of CD you are using, those unbranded cheep ones are not always the best. Try a TDK or Maxell, they seam to be the most reliable.
Your NEWDOTNET is regarded as "Spy wear" have you removed it recently with a program that scans for spy wear ?
The NEWDOTNET is installed by many programs, like Kaza, Audio Galaxy etc. Its function is to allow you to connect to non standard domain names.
A good registry cleaner can get rid of that for you, or try to locate the reference in your database with regedit, or even "system information" > system configuration > Startup
Hope this helps..

I don't see why it matters whether your cd rom is a master or slave, "once your system has recognized them".
However, there are links next to your ribbon socket marked SLV (slave) MST (Master) or something like that, you need to change those links.
And there is 2 controller sockets in your computer, if you have 1 hard drive and these 2 roms, then chances are your hard drive and cd rom is on the primary controller, but your second rom (Writer) is on the secondary controller.
