I'm looking at getting the AMEX Napa VCD player. I'm just wondering which one is better the DAV311 or the DAV310? I've read a lot of good things about the 310, but the 311 is newer and supposed to be better. But I've also seen mixed reviews on the 311. Some people say they suck big time, while others are saying they are way better than the 310. I also read that the earlier revision of the 311 could be the problem units and that later revisions were fine.

The main use of this player is for VCD's, and the occasional audio CD. The price difference between the two units are $30 Canadian. Which one is the better buy.

Also for owners of the DAV311 and 310, Where are these units made?

Thanks in advance.

I have a DAV 311. It's made in China. As a vcd player for my commercial vcd's it's great. For some reason the playback on some of my TMPGenc files has a slight unevenness. As an MP3 player, I think it's a waste. One thing -- it is quite shock-sensitive playing vcd's so it doesn't do well in a car. (I didn't try to watch while I was driving, only as a passenger.)

Have you guys ever looked at the main dat file on a commercial VCD in TMPGEnc tools multiplex window? I've rarely seen one encoded at more than 1123 ... I have one thats encoded at 1140.

Although TMPGEnc defaults to 1150 for our homebrew standard VCDs, apparently that tiny bit of difference in bitrate makes a world of difference to the Napa DAV portable VCD players. Keeping that in mind for my future standard VCD encodes, I've taken a babystep down in quality to 1123 just in case I ever win one of those things on ebay.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it'll get the DAV311, no plans on watching in the car, just for moving from one house or TV to another.
