I want to convert and send some my DV films to my friend to Canada.
I'm not sure that he has SVCD compatible DVD player and, of course, my films are in PAL format. So, could I put on the same SVCD disk any software player, which he could install on his PC? Which one? How about DVD player compatibility if I add some software on SVCD disk. Any hints?
I'd like to be sure that he will be able to use my disk on PC or DVD.

Not many software DVD players will handle SVCD's but WinDVD does.
Go to their homepage and download version 2.3 (as this doesn't require registering unless you wanna play AC3 stuff)
Good luck.

So, with that player I could just put on SVCD additional directory like WinDVD and my friend will be able to install it from that disk?
Small question - can PC read SVCD content as data CD-ROM?

Yes - but bear in mind that your SVCD writing software can put much more on a CDR than you can using normal create CD. IT doesn't use as much error checking, so you get more space, so if you leave plenty of space you might get away with it. (Tried this last week, ended up sticking WinDVD on a second disk !)

Yes SCVDs are readable on a PC, but it's Mpeg2 so only DVD players can read it,.. and then only two (in practice) seem to want to have anything to do with them!! Trying to read them via mediaplayer won't work.
VCD's are easily readable though.
