Problems converting MOV to AVI (and VCD)

Okay, I tried converting MOV to VCD-compliant MPEG directly with TMPGEnc and QTReader plug-in. No dice. After 3 or 4 minutes encoding I always get an error that states "Illegal floating point decimal calculation order." I tried converting my movie 3 times with that same result.

I then decided to go the other route, using AVI as an intermediary step. I downloaded RAD Video Tools as suggested on the MOV to AVI page on this site. I followed the instructions to the lettter. (I was more than pissed off that the guy who wrote the guide didn't mention that his preferred codec, PICVideo MJPEG, adds HUGE watermarks to the top and bottom of of the video unless you register it. To top it off, he links directly to the .exe file, so I didn't see the codec-maker's webpage, which mentions the watermark. But I digress...).

I immediately deleted the watermarked file and tried again, this time with Divx High-Motion. I didn't know what to set the bitrate to, so I put 1500. The resulting file looked great... at first. Then I realized that the audio cut out entirely at 13:33. The last half hour of the video was dead silent. WTF?

Anyone know what I did wrong?

do you have quicktime 5, or less, installed on your system.
I have the QT5pro, and was able to extract to avi w/ full sound, (not from qt directly though--quality sucked)straight to mjpeg and low-mo divx --key frame 3 secs, 6000K, and had no problems using the RADToolz. Then i cued up tmpgenc to svcd the filez. But tmpgenc'ing it directly the qt trailer would crap out at 10% every time with tmpgenc 12-12h. Just make sure you got enuff hd space.

To get the audio out use either totalrecorder3.0 (sharware) or as "Stinky" pointed out on one of the posts in the forum, use winamp with the tira plugin to extract the audio.
QT5 will let you save only the audio as well as wav which can then be muxed together to s,vcd or joined in VDub.

To use TMPEGEnc to encode to mpg, you need to downgrade to QT 4.0. I used to get the illegal floating point error too, I downgraded, works great.

I use Radtoolz to convert the quicktime movie to AVI and Total Recorder (you must use registered version at us dollars 11.95) to record audio track.)

First open quicktime movie, then open total recorder, press red recording button on total recorder, play movie and total recorder will produce wav file.

Next convert quick time file to avi

Next use Virtualdub to place audio file on avi file by opening avi file and then opening wav file (use the audio tab). Use huffyuv compression.

Play the resultant avi file and you should get both video and audio.

Convert that file to mpeg using TMPGEnc.

I think downgrading would be a lot more easier and cheaper than that. I've personally tried that Bink & Smacker which I think is the same thing, didn't work too well for me. Then again, my computer can't encode one format to another for some reason.
