I have a 45-minute VCD captured with the Terapin to a Memorex CD-R. The original VCD plays beautifully. I tried to make a copy using CloneCD, and the copy came out with numerous errors and could not be watched. I tried to re-copy, and the second try was even worse than the first.
I then copied the .dat file, changed the extention to .mpg, and tried to re-burn the file through Nero 5.5. Nero wanted me to encode it. I encoded it the first round. The picture freeze about five minutes into the VCD, but the sound continues. It will not fast forward. I tried burning it without encoding in Nero. Nero just gives an error, and stops 3% in the middle of burning the CD-R (thus making the CD-R into a coaster).
The CloneCD copy does not hang like the Nero re-burn, and actually is able to continue playing beyond where the Nero-version hangs.
Anyone have any idea how I could duplicate this VCD? The original VCD plays well, as does the MPEG-1 file when copied to my computer.
Thanks

Forgot to mention, I have successfully copied some other Terapin-made VCDs with CloneCD; others have had errors. I have re-burned some of the others with Nero and some have been successful.

It's probably your media. I get the same problems when I backup my VCD's bought from Asia. Really crappy quality.
You might try "re-encoding" to another CD-R then copy the new one. Personally, I use CloneCD but tell it to skip all the errors. From the image file, I extract the dat and burn it with Nero. However, where there were errors, the image comes out "blocky" for a few seconds.

I'm beginning to suspect it is Nero's encoding that's the problem; when I encode, the time is short of what it should be, and usually ends just about where the vcd freezes. I'm going to encode using tmpgenc, as I read somewhere else on this forum that tmpgenc has a better encoder.
Thanks!

If your VCD on the original CD-R midia plays fine and you use the same CD-R midia to make a copy, I think that problem (normally) is not here.
Try with Nero the COPY function. Simply COPY: CD-R to CD-R.
If you copy with Video CD function, Nero will try re-encode to VCD Compliant.
I have no problem with the only COPY function with my Nero and all VCD's copies play fine on my DVD Player.

I tried using Nero's copy, but had a small problem. After the original VCD was read into the hard drive, the copy was 63% complete when . . . the computer crashed. Big time, too. I ended up having to hit the reset button (I wonder if the original copy is still somewhere on my hard drive!), and when I brought Nero back up, it did not give me a recovery option.
I'll try again tonight but will turn off disk at once, maybe that will help?
Thanks to all,

Hi PioneerGirl
I've had similiar problems trying to copy CD's, usually i try some other burning software and it will work fine.
If Nero CD Copy doesn't work try CDR Win or adaptec.
Sing Sing, just curious as why to turn off disc at once when copying discs? I have this turned on normally (I think) and i don't have any problems.
Cheers

Even if there are errors on the disc, it shouldn't crash your computer. Perhaps you have a bad install of Nero?
Try un/re-installing.
I sometimes use CloneCD and tell it to skip all errors. That works for crappy CD's.
