  1. I'm having problems with AVG and need a good alternative. A search here yeilds Avast and Avira as good ones. Are those good or are there better ones out there?

    Avast has served me well. Uses little resources compared to others and works well. Also no popup adds trying to get you to purchase the full version.

  5. Yeah. Avira for me, too. It does have one popup whenever it updates. I've heard of ways to disable that, but it's a small price to pay for very excellent FREE antivirus software.

    I'm also going to switch from AVG to Avira. That 8.5 is too heavy for my computer (yeah, old one), and Avira seems to be the lightest of all, CPU-wise (the system requirements, according to the manual, is very low).

    It's definitely a good choice.

    I'm still using AVG. I bought more RAM. More hardware helps a lot of problems. I'm a slow adapter. I just stopped using Norton a little over a year ago. I know AVIRA and AVAST are getting good reviews but, I change real slow kicking and screaming all the way.
    Depends what the definition of the word inhale is.

    I use ClamWin which is a 'on-demand' scanner. It dosn't monitor files in real time.
    Another chose is MS security essentials;

  15. ClamWin. Avast is also very good.

    A year or two ago, I had Avira for a few months. It's okay I guess, I haven't had a badware problem for years now, so I can't speak from experience really. :P Got tired of the nag screen and went with ClamWin.

    The free Avira doesn't have email scanning, Avast does.

    Windows Security Essentials also lacks email scanning.

  22. I went with Avast since Avira doesn't have the resident shield in the free version from what I've read. It seems to work. At least my browser opens pages now, with AVG it got to where a third to half the pages I'd try to open wouldn't open without having to click multiple times.

    I always used 7.5 but when 8.0 came out that really sucked (no more updates for 7.5). Now I use Antivir free. I think it's even better then the internet security version of Bitdefender and Kaspersky

    I use four free security programs, Avast's anti-virus and Comodo's software firewall, plus MalawareBytes anti-malware and Advanced System Care.
