I sent my 223L to Samsuck to be replaced and I just called them 3 weeks later after no news and they say they are out of the 223L and want to replace it with a 223Q. Of course they didn't contact me to tell me that when they got the drive 2 weeks ago.

Is there any real difference between the two? Should I just go with the 223Q or hold out for the 223L?

No difference just probably different firmware on the drives. IMHO For some odd reason some Samsung models tend to have better burns that other models that have the same specs. Go figure!

The last Samsung drive I bought was S203B which was a few years back. I haven't bought that brand since I have many other dvd burners to use. Although I will buy the SONY/OPTIARC drive soon...hopefully!

Same here.
Q has Lightscribe support, L too....... F not.
I'd ask them for a 24x drive as replacement.
