I'm using tsmuxer GUI 1.10.6 to convert .mkv files to playstation3 format, i.e. m2ts muxing. The subtitle is recognized when I open the .mkv file in tsmuxer or I'm adding a srt file with subtitles from the hard disk. Then I choose m2ts muxing as output and start muxing. No errors are reported.
The problem I'm experiencing is with the subtitles, they are simply not displayed when I play the m2ts file on the PS3.
I tried to use different .mkv files with or without embedded subtitles the result is the same.
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

I think you have to make AVCHD disc by choosing that aAVCHD option, then burn the resulting dir structure
(i.e. BDMV, CERTIFICATE) on to a dvd 5/9 (assume that your movie can fit in this) using UDF2.5 file setup.
Then insert it in PS3. IT should work.
By simply making m2ts and trying to play it on PS3 may not give you the choice for subtitle.
How are you playing the m2ts on the PS3?

When it comes to playing the m2ts on the PS3 I tried both to stream it and copy-play from the PS3 hard disk. Both with the same result, i.e. no subtitles. (If I open the .m2ts file in tsmuxer it shows that there are subtitles with codec PGS)
For streaming to the PS3 I'm using the PS3 media server, http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/
I agree with you that choosing the AVCHD or maybe Blu-ray disk as output then burn a DVD may work but I'm trying to get rid of using DVDs to play content.

I use DVD+RW or DVD-RW so that I can re-use them again.
Other choice is to creat the AVCHD route and keep that in your PC.
Then use Nero SHowtime to play from the Hard disc.
If you have the HDMI output from your PC, then you can connect to the HDTV.
(I know that beats the original question of using PS3
