My cousin who is pretty computer illiterate, uses CloneDVDMobile to rip TV episodes to DivX format. He uses CloneDVDMobile purely because it is easy, even he can figure it out, and it is quick. To me, the quality of the conversions are not that good, IMO. At the moment he is ripping simpsons episodes, each episode has been ripped to its highest quality which makes the output files about 450mb each. If we set the output file size to about 200mb then the quality is not very good. He's not fussed about the file size too much but I am also getting copies of these and I don't want 200gb of simpsons episodes on my pc when it could be far less. I would like to change the program that my cousin is using, it needs to be able to set the output file size, the quality needs to be good, the gui needs to be easy enough for me to teach a dumb ass and the conversions need to be quick. I know I'm asking for a lot here.

I generally use FairUseWizard myself which produces far better results. I can set the output for each episode to 200mb and I am very happy with the result. The issue is this too complex for him to use and it's also too slow according to him. I also use AutoGK which is also very good but this takes even longer. Is there another piece of software that does a pretty good job, better than clonedvdmobile, and still quick. Maybe not a quick as clone but around those types of conversion times. 25mins per episode CloneDVDMobile compared to 1hr55mins per episode with AutoGK is a huge difference.

Try HandBrake. You can make a custom profile for him also.

avi.Net i find it faster than AutoGk, there's also StaxRip, you could also try one of the portable programs like Avanti that has profiles, for extreme simplicity of use i would recommend Automen (pick source, pick width resolution, set audio, set video bitrate and convert)

I already have HandBrake installed on my PC, I'll give that one a shot first. I like the idea of setting up a custom profile. If I don't think it is what I am looking for after I test it out, I will give the other ones a try that ricardouk suggested.

Thanks.

Ok, I've tried out HandBrake and to me it looks pretty good for animation and it is quick too. I haven't tested anything else but I think that I will at least get him to change programs for the simpson rips. Thanks again.
