I've noticed many new players limit the number of files displayed from cdrs, so only 12-20 mp3 files will appear.
I'm also having problems finding a player to handle my svcd cdrs. The last player I bought couldn't handle the audio and the Coby before it freezes consistently. [My collection is all Youtube files converted with VDownloader, and the audio won't even work with Windows Media Player without a patch.]
I've done extensive searching on this site, but it seems rare to find consistently good reviews for any product, and the ones I've researched rarely provide info on the mp3 limits esp.
I'm looking for a low-end player, although I'm borderline on getting a recorder instead. Any advice? I live in rural USA so its rare I can go into a store to try my disks. Its weird, my 1st 3 low-end players handled these issues and now its getting to be a quest.

Philips makes some cheap players that should meet your needs. Look into those.
Good luck finding a DVD recorder. There are almost none available in the USA and Canada. Everybody abandoned the marketplace due to lack of demand. Consumers in North America wants a Tivo type device because almost nobody wants to keep what they record.

Actually, the player I mentioned that couldn't play my svcd audio was a Phillips DVP3140. I tried all possible settings, but the audio came out as a very annoying screetch!

Check the specs of the files that VDownloader is producing. It's possible it isn't creating files which meet the SVCD spec.

I've wondered about that, but these same files did play on players I had before. They never did work with the Windows player without the patch I found , and with Realplayer I get a similiar screetching sound.

Maybe it's a 44.1 KHz vs. 48 KHz issue. SVCD is only supposed to use 44.1 KHz but maybe your SVCD uses 48 KHz on the audio and the player doesn't check for that possibility.

Not all players support VCD and/or SVCD. The best place to start is by verifying what is officially supported by the player with the problem and by ensuring your files meet the specs for how you are trying to use them. Comparing various players and PC's to each other is pointless.
