Hello,
I ve never seen an upscaled dvd playing. so i dont know if there is a quality improvement... but i have a question for you who have seen it:
is there an improvement in quality if a dvd is encoded to mkv 1080p?
thanks

Well you might get a bit better "quality" but it's not worth reconverting vob to 1080p, instead either get a dvd player with 1080p upscaling builtin or wait for the blu-ray release of that movie to get REAL 1080p.

SuperResolution scalers like TheDeemon's Video Enhancer can upscale a little better than your typical upscaling DVD player but you will spend a lot of time and still won't have all the real detail of a 1080p source.

Of course, they chose shots where their technique worked especially well. Too bad they didn't also show the same shots from Blu-Ray rips. You would have seen how much better real 1080p looks.
Your typical upscaling DVD player or HDTV will use something like a bilinear or bicubic filter.
