My friend has files that he claims are AVCHD but they cannot be loaded by an app called Voltaic HD, which handles these types of files. GSpot utility shows they are in MOV quicktime container, but the codec field shows 'apcn' with unknown name and status. Any ideas what this video file is and how I can convert it? They play fine with MPC and cccp codec pack.

  2. apcn is a type of audio. What does mediainfo say about your file (the video stream)?

If I were to guess, it's likely h.264 video from a camera (not camcorder), but not avchd which is probably why voltaic is disagreeing

If it plays ok in mpc, xvid4psp should be able to convert it to most file types, another option is avidemux; but you didn't state what your goal is

I can't quite make sense of this. I'd simply like to convert these files to a more common format.

  4. Did you try the suggestions? They can output most formats

Thanks for your feedback. It turns out SUPER can handle it. I'm not sure why I didn't try it first.
