As a Brit living in Canada, it is nice to see the "if something goes wrong " attitude prevailing there still.

Where in the UK are you, ?

If you happen to be going to China, Wal-mart China has a big selection of DVD players that all have USB jack for movies/pictures/audio etc. They have a house brand one for $20 US (see screenshot) that runs on 110/220 volts and works well for avi movies on the USB. However, it would not display srt subtitles off the USB. Models costing $30 and up would display srt subtitles off the USB. I haven't found any cheap DVD players that display sub/idx subtitles off the USB.

I guess you always get ripped off on electronics in the UK. Do you have to pay VAT on top of that? They sell for less than $55 here:

Just phoned a load of stores and no one has it or ever ever did have it, I emailed philips and all they did was give me the link to the philips page and said click buy to see available stores which I know only comes up with Amazon confused.gif
I phoned them and they just gave a few shop names that could have it but they didnt.

I might have to give up on it sad.gif

YES!!! finally got there.... sort of

Philips provided me with a number to Dutchwest, there mail order company.
http://www.dutchwest.co.uk/acatalog/philips-DVP5990-divx-dvd-play ... aling.html

I know its not exactly over the counter but its trustworthy and has a 12 month warranty biggrin.gif
I phoned them up and they expect a delivery any day now because its out off stock at the moment.

The only downside is that its £77 inc delivery realmad.gif

btw I noticed the u.s version is a 5990/37 and I think this one will be a 5990/05, will it be easy to make multi-region?
