How to decode Dolby Digital from SPDIF input?

Hi,

Can anyone help...

I got my PS3 to output audio through optical (optical INPUT on my PC)... this goes in to my PC where I then output the sound through the speaker system... the sound card is on board..

On the PS3 menu system everything is fine; I can hear the click on every movement... but when I start a game; or play some music I lose the sound?

What am I doing wrong? Anyone else experienced this? Could it be my PC doesn't decode Dolby Digital? If so how do I get it to do so?
