Hi
I'm looking for a tool, which can check MPEG2-Files for DVD-compatibility, preferably running on command-line. That is, I simply want to run this program on some MPEG2 File and the output should tell me, whether or not the file can be directly used with dvdauthor and will run on every standard-compatible DVD-Player or if conversion is necessary beforehand or if some video property is non-standard and problems with some DVD-Players may occur.
Is there anything like this available?
Thanks
Markus

I don't know of anything that will give you a simple yes or no answer. In addition, the compliance of the audio, the authoring process itself, the burning process, and the media used all play a major role in the playability of the final product. The actual compliance of the video is only a small component of a more complex picture.
Mediainfo is a commonly used multi-platform video tool that can tell you a lot of details about a clip. From this you can determine if the video fits within the compliance standards for DVD. It has a commandline version and also a dll for incorporating into other software. Quite a few freeware encoding and authoring tools use it.
