I subscribe to WWE 24/7's Online subscription service. Today I tried to start downloading the video files to convert them to DVD. Here is what happened:

1. I used Net Transport to download from the source and it downloaded the 190 MB .wmv file from wwe.com. I got the source using wm recorder

2. I am able to open the .wmv file in Windows Media Player and it plays the whole 35 min. If I try to open the file with vlc media player it plays garbled video

3. When I try to convert the file to dvd mpeg using wm converter it spits out a smaller file that wont play

4. When I try to convert the file to dvd mpeg using TMPEG ENC 3.0 it says it cannot open the .wmv file to start the conversion

Am I doing something wrong here? I cant figure out why I cant convert the file to dvd mpeg so I can begin the authoring to DVD process, which I can do with no issues.

Is the file that I downloaded good or could it be protected? I am not sure of this

Thanks!

Yes, it's most likely protected/has DRM. Windows Media Player won't have any problems playing it as it'll have the license file you'll need to play the video, but no other player/converter will be able to do anything with it... unless you use something like FairUse4WM, as jagabo suggested. It'll still require the license file to convert the videos to normal WMVs, though.

This may be a dumb question, but how do I get the license file to do the conversion?

When I downloaded the .wmv using net transport, I got two files, the 190MB file as well as another file, is that the license file?

Also, is their a way to get the URL (source) from Windows Media Player? I dont want to have to buy wm recorder just to get the URL.
