Hi,

Recently (within the past few days) I've experienced a strange problem with SUPER. I've always used SUPER for encoding and I haven't changed anything on my computer recently. After I encode a video with SUPER, if I play that encoded video, an error message pops up saying that windows needs to shut down (even if there are no windows open) and the folder which I am watching the encoded video from freezes and I can't do anything to it (minimize, maximize, close) unless I do a ctr alt + del to it. The video doesn't freeze, it plays fine, just the folder that contained the video file. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I would like to keep using SUPER if possible. BTW, I downloaded a new version of SUPER and nothing has changed. It's still doing it.

thanks
jim

That sounds like Windows Explorer may be locking up when trying to read the file. (Not the same program as Internet Explorer). One thing you might try is turning off thumbnails in the 'Control Panel>Folder Options>View' by checkmarking 'Always show icons, never thumbnails."

Explorer can crash and lock up the computer when it tries to display something it doesn't understand. sad.gif

thanks for the response. I went to where you said, but I don't seem to have an option to show icons instead of thumbnails. Any other suggestions?

thanks

Sorry, I've been using Vista too long. redface.gif That option apparently isn't in XP.

I'll start over. What format does this happen with? Does it only happen with video encoded with SUPER? It still sounds like Windows Explorer may be at the root of the problem. But in another thread with somewhat similar problems, it looked like codecs were the cause, too many of them for the same format. http://forum.videohelp.com/topic355087.html#1877301

If this only happens with only one video format, that may be a clue. If it happens with all, maybe not.

no problem, the problem seems to have resolved itself, not exactly sure. I believe one of the files was the offender (I deleted them all) and don't seem to have the problem anymore. So you may be right about all the various codecs associated with one file. God knows I've downloaded way more than I should have in the past.

thanks again
