If you are using itunes and you have set it to sync to your ipod and you put songs on your ipod on pc 1 then took it to pc 2 and pc 2 deleted them they are gone. Sure you could try some undelete programs but their success will vairy. My recomendation is to check out other ipod managing software like floola, its great and its free.

Don't let iTunes manage everything for you. If you just set your iPod up as an external HDD, and don't let iTunes automatically sync, you don't have this problem. Or only ever sync with one PC.
All in all it is a typical Apple approach - The Apple way is the only way - why would anyone want to do it differently ?
Manually manage it, and you keep control
