Hello all.
I am looking for a Mac based application that can extract subtitles from DVDs. Can anyone suggest any good ones?
There are a lot Windows apps mentioned around here that I might resort to, via VMWare, but would prefer to stick within OSX if possible.
Thanks for any help!

ffmpegX can extract subtitles in VobSub (.idx+.sub) or SubRip (.srt) format. In my experience, the SubRip needs quite some manual help on OCR, though. That is, you'll be asked what characters some glyphs are.

I always use D-Subtitler. Less finicky than ffmpegX and it does a pretty good job. Of course, here too you'll need to help out a few times, and the resulting .srt file will need a bit of editing after...

Thanks all.
What do you use to rip the VOB? I was under the mistaken impression that the subtitle files could be pulled out straight from the disk.
I found the Yade homepage, but there does not appear to be an English version.
Thanks again!

Use MactheRipper for ripping the DVD to your Mac. With D-Subtitler you can extract an .srt from a VIDEO_TS file or from a Single File VOB. Makes no difference.

the homepage is in french, seems that the last version too is in french only!
PS: I think you don't need anymore Yade
due some stupid lobbies, css decryption is forbidden in french, so this version is only for private dvd (and for the same use, Mpegstreamclip is more friendly)
bye
