I'm having trouble finding a quality player for avi files. The type-2 AVI files captured from my camcorder. Media Player and Center, and VLC all play the video slightly fast. They are normal speed on Virtualdub, but it's not a good full screen player. I have a fairly new high speed HP Media computer so it's not lack of processing power. I'm tired of compressing my video. Now that hard drives are so big and cheap I just want to play my video uncompressed.

Are you sure?
I've never seen VLC play at other than 1x speed. And I play tons of DV-AVI.

It's just very slightly faster. Or maybe it's just kind of jerky and not quite natural looking movement. VLC's quality doesn't seem to be that great anyway. Media Center Player looks like it's better quality but it still has the same unnatural movement issues. It looks fine with movies or TV that I've recorded.

That sounds more like a issue with the computer or your video card. I've more often seen players stutter where the video requires quite a bit of processing power to display, such as high definition H.264 or similar, or the computer is older with a slower CPU or video card. DV-AVI shouldn't have playback problems. VLC does sometimes use more system resources than Media Player Classic, but this is usually only noticeable with higher compression codecs.
What video card are you using? You might want to check if there are updated drivers available. I would also check your hard drive and see if it needs defragging. Are your computer details correct for that PC? 512MB of RAM is a bit on the small side. I would consider going to 1GB. That may not help your playback problem, but it may help with other processes. If your video card is using system RAM, you may have even less than 512MB to work with.
Other possibilities are software programs running in the background and stealing CPU cycles. Check your Task manager. Some anti-virus programs can slow playback if they are constantly scanning the file that is playing.

Try VLC Deinterlace (under "Video") set to "Discard". Discard plays only one field thus placing half the load on the system vs. "Disable" (interlace). "Linear", "Mean" or "Blend" will deinterlace playback but place a heavier load on the CPU.

It has 3GB of RAM and the Q6600 quad core processor.
