What kind of surface coating to the discs do they use. I know Ritek hub printables feel less coated but easier to print on with less ink but what about the Verbatims? Are they like the Taiyo yuden hub printables?

Well, NOTHING that I have ever seen compares to Taiyo Yuden Watershield discs. If this is what you mean by "Taiyo Yuden hub printables", then you are sure to be disappointed. I have used Watershield discs. I have never used TY's hub printable non-Watershield discs.
Verbatim's hub printable material is not glossy at all. It's flat. I find that while the quality is acceptable on them, that they take a while to dry. If you have a lot of blacks on your labels, you need to be careful because the blacks will still come off at least a little even days after printing. I have hands and fingers that tend to sweat a little more than normal so this is a bigger issue for me than it might be for a person with normal hands and fingers. I hope that helps.

TY watershields ARE the best after printing. Verbatims seem to be a bit rougher than TY.
I'm watching the watershields at the moment: $63 per hundred shipped at supermediastore.

Ok so they're flat like Riteks. Ok good to know. I guess I will use the Taiyos. One thing though I believe I at one time either bought the more glossier white hub printables made by either taiyo or ritek and I noticed that when I printed on these the ink never makes it to the edge of the disc like the flat white hub printables. If I try and expand it all that does is get ink all over the rim of the disc. There was no middle ground.
