Each time I start the program a dropdown shows up asking me to reload mpeg3enc, mencoder and mplayer. Is there a way to make this path permanent?

Same problem here - into which folder/place should I put these? After all, I need to validate the installation each time at the bottom of the drop window. (Mac)

You don't 'put' them anywhere. Download the binaries to your desktop, download ffmpegX, load it, direct it to those files on your desktop and it will place everything in its proper place. What remains on your desktop can be tossed out. You may need to uninstall everything first.

This is an ongoing problem, and is NOT solved by following the standard install procedure outlined above. Also, it is not true that it needs to be reinstalled. It is never installed in the first place. If you do what you normally do when you startup, even though it seems like it installs, if you then select "Install Binaries" from the File menu, you will see that ffmpegX still seems to think it is not installed. I have found that even if you have a PPC machine, you still need to select and download the .intel version of mpeg2enc. I have tried this out on a test file and apparently this still results in a functional codec, however. It seems that as of the last few versions of ffmpegx, the application requires the intel version.

Why is this an issue? What did you expect? The URL in the installer window and the links on the website all point to one and the same file (for 0.0.9w and later): mpeg2enc.intel, which is not just an Intel version, but a Universal Binary for both PPC and Intel. If you install a different binary than required, of course it will say that it hasn't been installed correctly.

I managed to get it to work but it wasn't exactly intuitive:
-download mencoder, mplayer, mpeg2enc
-place in /library/application support/ffmpegx
Run the app.
If you check all three and enter your password I'd get this, persistently:
The Installation was not successful:
/Library/Application Support/ffmpegx/mencoder and /Library/Application Support/ffmpegx/mencoder are identical (not copied)
If I uncheck mencoder it errors out on mplayer, if I uncheck mplayer it seems like
it takes.
Relaunch the app and you get the splash for the registration instead of the "install binaries".
Try it, it may work for you!
Running 0.0.9w on a G5 2.5 dual running Leopard.
7 gigs of ram, 1.2 TB of disc.
