This is my first time trying to get an hdv to my computer. I'm using sony vegas 8 pro, so i have the software. My camera is instantly recognized by windows and vegas. I can actually capture the video, but there are problems.
1. It splits every single frame into an .m2t file
2. there is no sound
3. It only seems to do every 5 frames or so, so the playback is horrible.
I've got no idea what to do, i've looked at all the vegas settings and don't see how else to configure it.
Thanks.

try capturing with HDVSplit over firewire and then importing the file to vegas.

Ive tried HDVSplit and it doesnt seem to work at all. When I hit capture it says it's started, then it stops after about 5 seconds (it says the tape has stopped) and nothing was even captured.

ouch. if the camera is recognized by windows and the program sees it as a source then i would be checking for a bad firewire cable, computer card, or port on the camera.
has it ever worked?

The firewire works because it works with other cameras.
The camera works because it's my friends and he has no problem using it (but he uses Final Cut on his Mac)
And I don't know about if somehow my computer affects it.
