Hello,
I have a 24 gb hdtv mpeg2 file from my pvr. I would like to shrink this down to fit on a dual layer disc without some time consuming process. I have an amd 64 3000+ and a gig and a half of pc3200 ram. I've tried some mkv encoding already and I get a crazy estimate that is some like 100 hours + . I'm just looking for some option that my pc can handle to get these mpeg2's shrunk down.
Thanks

24GB is 3hrs of movie. The fastest app is ConvertXtoDVD. With your proc, expect 8-9 hrs. Of course, you'd end up with a final dimension of 720x480.
If your source is 1920x1080, it's going to be painfully slow to transcode to the same dimensions. If you want the output to be 1920x1080 it'll take a long time. Consider splitting the source into 3 parts and doing it over 3 days.
If you're convert to h264, the time will be longer than converting to Xvid.

thanks for replying. I would still like to keep the mpeg at 720p instead of converting it for SD DVD. I know encoding to avchd for me takes forever, but I just wanna keep it an mpeg and be able to squeeze it down to 8 gigs and just burn it to a disc either as TS mpeg or any other type of mpeg as long as I keep the 720p.
