The technical details for my TV/Monitor can be viewed here:

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Samsung_Syncmaster_940MW__6493111#productdetail

I have my Nintendo Wii console connected to my TVs component cable connections and the component image is fine for all my modern Wii games (in all video output modes) but when I run the old console games on it via its Virtual Console feature (for example, Super Mario bros from the SNES console), I get green lines on the screen when the games are not paused.

I have tried all my Wii's video output modes (576i 50hz,480i 60hz,480p 60hz) with my component cables and I have tried using my Wii with the 576i output and with the TV display set to non wide screen. My component cables cannot display my old games in any of these settings. When I check my TVs settings it tells me that all of these different output signals are being received, when I enable each of them.

However when I play ALL my Wii game on my parents 40"+ HDTV using my component cables, the Image is fine .

The image for all my Wii games is shown properly through its composite cables (567i 50hz / 480i 60 6hz).

So I have no idea whats wrong, I think it could either be:

1. My LCD TV (which is also a monitor) because my parent HDTV receives the same signals and displays them fine - but wouldn't the technology for decoding and displaying component signals be the same in any televisions with component cable support?

or

2. My Nintendo Wii because it is responsible for outputting the correct video signal - yet why is signal correctly received on my parents HD TV?

One thing I've noticed is when my my parent HD TV loads the old games and has to start displaying them, it flickers momentarily and then displays them correctly. I guess this is simply my Wii automatically changing the display mode from 480p to the old mode, necessary for the old games to be shown and played.

Can anyone help?

1. No they are not all the same. The SyncMaster is first a computer monitor and may lack the sophicticated video processing engine found in Samsung LCD-TVs (there are 4 levels of processing engines).

The low price of this monitor suggests it is using generic analog to digital processing/deinterlace, not the Samsung engine.

Thanks for the helpful reply, I guess I'll just have to stick with non progressive scan graphics.
