Noramally I don't have trouble with converting, but converting a codec to another codec. I have winavi, Iwant to convert my 700mb xvid avi backup movies to divx (you know what i'm saying). I have fffdshow installed. so..

Please tell me specified (name location) for the proper way to do this

I click on convert to avi, open my media and change the output in advanced. Use the ffdshow encoder and choose divx. I'm not sure what to to do with the audio option in the advanced option, hopefully somebody will also answer this? Also, will the file be roughly the same amount when I convert these movies? I have a divx dvd player, I could propably burn 6 movies on one RW dvd.

Hopefully u guys could give me some pointer.
( i looked in the guide section, but couldn't find anything, please help)

15 views, nobodies helped sad.gif

If I havn't given neough information, please ask. I'll be back on ur tomrow.

Why ?

Why use WinAVI for anything ? It is the dog poo of converters.

Why convert Xvid to Divx ? Most (if not all) Divx players will play Xvid files because the two codecs have a common heritage. If, for some reason, the player does like the file, the issue is more likely to be qpel or GMC or similar.

Your silly little comment (You know what I'm saying) implies to me three things

1. You are very new to this forum and haven't read the rules properly
2. You spend too much time around the know nothings of warez sites
3. You listen to them, hence installing WinAVI, then eventually finding your way here when it doesn't work.

So here is some free advice.

1. Uninstall WinAVI. It is rubbish.
2. Don't go to warez sites. No-one there knows anything about video.
3. Don't give a nod and a wink about piracy here - it doesn't fly.
4. Use AVI Recomp if you want a compliant file to play.

that a nice psychological effect. I study psychology, that will not work on me.

1. yes i'm new
2. stfu SIRR!! that is an insult. I've been in this business for soem years, I'm extending my knowledge in encoding. I've gone to the length of camming batman IMAX preview. I have my own system modding bussiness.
3. I've used winavi some years ago, I have somee other programs, but I've been pushin myslef from learing this for some time. It seems I made hte same mistake as before when using winavi

avi remake, i tried it out

I don't see the option to convvert xvid to divx!!! I got farther with winavi then this
i just lost hope in u and this site

AVI Remake ? What is AVI Remake ?

I said AVI Recomp. It specialises in converting badly encoded on non-compliant Divx/Xvid files to something playable on Divx players. It is about as simple as it gets.

However, as you can barely write legibly, I'm not surprised you can't read either.

I tried the xvid on hte dvd player, couldn't read it. I checked up on what u said. THe new divx dvd players don't play xvid, I could probaly change hte header so it reads it.

What players do you have that won't play Xvid files ?

I am curious because I have yet to see one. I have seen players that won't recognise the .divx extension, but happily play the same file if the extension is changed to .avi. But I have yet to see a player that won't play a compliant Xvid file.

Convert Xvid to Divx: AVI Fourcc Code Changer. Or just rename the file from .AVI to .DIVX.

If the Xvid file has features (multiple B frame, QPEL, GMC) that your player can't handle (both Divx and Xvid can produce files with these features) you'll have to reencode.
