I saw a sony 5.1 hdmi amp for 200.00 in the best buy ad this weekend.
If it has hdmi input does that mean it "has" to have the high def processing? Or is that like saying I have a radio tuner but it has to specify if it can tune in am AND fm?
It will be sometime before I replace my existing fiber optic amp but I am pleasantly suprised that hdmi amps are now at the price I paid for my fiber optic amp however many years ago.

I will eventually switch to a sony hdmi 6.1 amp. I want it to have at least three hdmi inputs. Good to see the price is coming down.

Yes, an Onkyo. It has a couple of HDMI inputs and 1 output.
