I have a canon HDV camera and recorded a project with it onto a regular DV tape. I am having a hard time getting my footage onto my computer. We put the tape in a normal DV camera to try and capture it, and it said "HDV video not supported". Please help, i would prefer not to re shoot a whole day of footage, and i feel like this should be a fairly easy fix. Any help would be very appreciated, thank u.

did you try fast forwarding a little to skip over any HD footage that may be left over on the tape? otherwise it sounds like it may have been shot in HD by mistake.

Restate your problem with specifics.

Which Canon HD Camcorder?
Did you shoot in HDV or DV mode?
Do you want to edit in HDV or DV format?

Does your Mac support HDV format? What software? Which version?

You can't play back HDV on a DV-only camcorder.

You can read his original post several ways. He has a Canon HDV camcorder but we don't know if he was trying to shoot in HDV or DV mode. Even if he shot HDV, the Canon camcorder can transfer it as either HDV or DV format depending on camcorder settings. If shot DV format, it should play in a regular DV camcorder and transfer. If shot HDV it won't play at all in a normal DV camcorder.
