Hello, I'm trying to find a copy of 0.0.9x r1. I've been using 0.0.9y on my macbook pro and my psp always says the files are corrupted. I've read that converting videos for PSP on an intel mac with version 0.0.9x r1 will actually create playable files.

Maybe someone could email it to kram@ca.rr.com

Thanks for any help!!!

I'm seeing similar behavior using 0.0.9y (which if I "get info" on it in the Finder still shows 0.0.9x).

I've actually only managed to create 2 files which play on the PSP using the non-h.264 PSP pre-setting. Otherwise the other files do not play. If I convert using the h.264 converter the PSP claims the files are "corrupted" and using the generic PSP converter results in "This video cannot be played."

So, I'm wondering if a bug snuck into 0.0.9y related to the PSP. I've seen some people saying "well it works here" in other forum posts, but I'd be curious if it works with the kinds of files we're converting. Maybe on something small it works just fine, but I'm certainly seeing unpredictable behavior. I'm happy to try and help out in working these bugs out though.

I've got a handful of files 2 converted fine and 2 did not. So something is up. wink.gif What can I do to help?

Best.

I have the same problem since I bought a new apple and installed the latest version of the software. I have recently paid for my registration of ffmpegx, so I was hoping for a working version after my upgrade.

I have emailed to the developer (I hope it was the right address) for information and a possible bugfix.

is this a problem only linked to intel macs? 0.0.0y works for me on a powerbook. But admittedly, I'm not using the psp presets but the full-res settings found here:

http://forum.videohelp.com/topic326029.html?highlight=psp

just to check, if you used the h264 presets, the videos should be placed in the MP_ROOT/100ANV01 folder.

The PSP is very picky about where a video file is placed. It is crucial to put the file in the correct place on the memory stick. AFAICT there are 3 places where video files may be put:

/VIDEO
/MP_ROOT/100ANV01
/MP_ROOT/100MNV01

Nothing ever worked for me out of the /VIDEO folder, so I won't comment on it. The 100MNV01 folder will work with non-h.246 files only. The 100ANV01 folder works with h.264 files.

I can confirm that creating a file with ffmpegX 0.0.9y (on PowerPC Mac) using the PSP H.264 preset and changing the video size to 480x272, bitrate to "Best" (458 kbps), framerate set at 29.97, with slightly better AAC audio bitrate (96 kbit/s), encoding profile set to psp, without any trellis quantization or decoding with quicktime (which others have suggested) works perfectly if put into the /MP_ROOT/100ANV01 folder. The filename is MAQxxxxx.MP4.

The same file shows up as Unsupported Data if put into the /VIDEO folder, and the PSP does not see it at all if it is put into the /MP_ROOT/100MNV01 folder.

What may be significant is that I am running custom firmware, version 3.90 M33-3.

Still, try placing the created file in a couple of different folders on the Memory Stick and success may ensue.

The link:

http://mac.rbytes.net/cat/mac/video/ffmpegx-0.0.9x/ unfortunately does not give your version r2.... It says so on the site, but links to the ftp site of the developer who has replaced the file with the y-version.

I have tried the options in http://forum.videohelp.com/topic326029.html?highlight=psp
which mactheknife recommends, but I still get Corrupted Data. So not Unsupported Data but Corrupt Data.

Maybe it is linked to intel Macs. I got a response from the developer stating that sony probably changed their format requirement again, but that's nonsense. I replaced my apple and fmpeg, not my firmware. No new reply yet.....

PS I am also running version 3.90 M33-3.

And the search goes on smile.gif

0.0.9x r2 is still available at the official FTP.

Hi! I've tried what domiin recommended, but I was unable to get it to work either sad.gif Domiin, are there any other options to check under the options tab?

I can only get PSP conversion to work on a PPC. I'm running on a 0.0.9y on a Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz and a PSP Phat on 3.80M33-5. Using these same exact settings on my Intel iMac 2.16Ghz FAILS. These settings have only worked on an Intel Mac for me when I was using 0.09xR1

Here are the options I use:

Summary: h264 x264 Preset
Video: 480x272; (Framerate should match that of the source file)
Audio: Leave at default
Filters: Leave at default
Options: Use CABAC; Constant bitrate; Trellis; Decode with quicktime; Encoding profile - PSP; AVC level - 3.0

That's it. It should still come up with a MAQXXXXX.MP4 filename because the encoding profile is set to PSP. For me, this file only works when placed in the VIDEO folder and not the MP_ROOT folders.

Note that the resolution is flexible. I've never tried it with resolutions outside of 480x272 but I guess you could try for the maximum of 720x480 if you intend to output to TV. So for 4:3 videos the resolution is 368x272 and 2.35:1 is 480x208. The PSP will be able to support any resolution up to its minimum as long as it is divisible by 16.

If you don't have a PPC Mac or find it too slow, then I would suggest using Visualhub or Penguin Encoder MP4. They have also worked for me. I would especially recommend the latter should ffMpegx not work because it has converted everything including RMVB files without issue for me so far and its FREE smile.gif

mactheknife, please note that I am not using h264 x264, but the "PSP H.264" preset (selected from the Summary tab), which uses ffmpeg.

This means that on the Options pane in ffmpegX I don't have Cabac, or AVC level settings. In any case, all the options on the left are disabled, Encoding profile is set to "psp" and that's it.

Also, "framerate should match that of the source file" is not necessarily correct. I'd heard that the PSP will only play 29.97 fps files (23.976 with pulldown as well, perhaps?). Haven't tested, because my Mac is so slow, and besides ffmpegX normally does a good job for me changing the framerate from PAL sources (I'm in Europe).

I don't have an Intel Mac, and obviously the results may differ. I'll try to get hold of one in the near future and will report the outcome, unless someone beats me to it (reporting the outcome, not the Mac).

Ever since firmware 3.30, the PSP has been able to play NTSC, NTSC FILM and PAL framerates, so no worries about that. Or at least, they have worked for me when placed in the VIDEO folder.

I guess the lesson is that if we are using the preset then it should be fine going into MP_ROOT/ANV0001 and if we are using x264 then it goes into video.

You are, of course, correct about the framerate. I just converted and tried a file with 23.976 fps and one with 25 fps and they both play fine.

Settings were as before: PSP H.264 preset, 480x272, 96 kbit/s audio. Played from /MP_ROOT/100ANV01, refused to play (Unsupported Data) from /VIDEO.

Still haven't had accesss to an Intel Mac. Maybe tomorrow.

I've given up on ffmpegx for now and their support desk also it seems. They don't reply anymore. I have downloaded visualhub and it worked straight away (on my intel Mac).

Now it is only a shame that I just paid and registered for ffmpeg sad.gif

Unfortunately I can confirm that on an Intel Mac ffmpegx 0.0.9x r2 and 0.0.9y create unusable files for the PSP.

I just did some conversions on a MacBook using the PSP H.264 preset, 480x272, 96 kbit/s audio, Encoding profile set to psp (in other words identical to settings I quoted in an earlier post). They show up as Corrupted Data both in /MP_ROOT/100ANV01 and /VIDEO.

Once again, converting using the very same settings using a PowerPC Mac works properly. Most bizzare, all this.

i think there is a problem with ffmpeg multi-threading on the intel mac, and also you need to make sure youre using level 2.1 for your conversions... i use this at terminal
Code:
/Applications/ffmpegX.app/Contents/Resources/ffmpeg -y -i ~/Desktop/*.avi -f mp4 -vcodec h264 -level 21 -s 480x272 -b 1000k -coder 1 -acodec aac -ac 2 -ab 128k ~/Desktop/*.mp4

not sure if these settings can be replicated at gui, but i can confirm them for me at 480x272, 720x480, 368x208 from many different sources and different audio and video bitrates (audio from 48-128k, video from 350-1500k). place all videos in "video" folder on memstick (not in psp folder, if your not sure, use your psp to format the stick, it will create the folder structure you need).
i had the exact same problem with handbrake and a similar solution seems to work. use this in the "current x264 advanced option string" box
Code:
threads=1:level=21
... any q's, ask
