Not true, it depends on where you are and where you want to put it. In the UK you have to apply to the local council for what is called planing permission if you want to build or alter a building. The rules are different in different areas. It is also different depending on where you want to mount the dish. If you want to put it on the front of a house in full view of the road, you MAY have to ask permission for anything larger than 90cm. If you want to mount it on the back where it can't be seen, you PROBABLY won't need permission. If you want to mount it in the garden, and not attached to the house at all, you WON'T need permission (unless you intend mounting it on a base greater than 30 square meters).

If you live in an area that is designated as a conservation area, in an old cottage for instance, you may not even get permission for any dish if the local council feel it will spoil the appearance of the area.

In the U.K. on the cities you need permission on all cases to install dishes larger than 90cm on buildings. The law exists since 2001 (before 2001 only 65cm allowed without permission...)

Installing dishes to the ground is another issue. I don't know many people to have a Garden in the center of London and use it for installing 3 meter dishes there!

@[_chef_]: My job is the satellite reception. smile.gif

All countries have stupid laws. At least, in Germany you can do whatever you wish if you own your house. On the other hand, you can't do a thing if you rent a flat. I know people that install dishes inside their houses to watch Hotbird, behind windows! It seems that the Germany laws are very gentle to the owners of the buildings on those matters: They can determine whatever rules they want. From what I know, they usually offer cable solutions, which are very limited compared the satellite reception. But since 2004, there is a law there, from what I know, that if you prove that you wish to watch a channel that you cable provider doesn't offers you, you can install a dish. I think it is 90cm too in Germany for the cities too.

I can't receive BBC HD in Hellas (unfortunatelly), but I can watch CH4 HD. Sometimes I'm able to watch Premiere HD and occasionally HD Suisse (among the best HD channels in picture quality in this part of hemisphere!). The rest HDTV channels I receive are the FTA ones.

HDSuisse went V2.6. Ugh! I'm not a suisse citizen.
You have a point of course with the dish size.

I wish it were so with the german laws. sad.gif
