I've been trying to convert some videos I have to mp4 for use on a Nokia N95 mobile phone. I can get the file right, but I can't get the size right. For some reason, when I want to convert a music video that is 49 MB in its original file format (640x480, 30fps, 751kbps, wmv), all I get is a 32 MB file (320x240, 30fps, ~400kbps, mp4). This does not seem to be a huge advantage, especially in file size.

I'm using the trial version of Total Video Converter.

How can I get the filesize down to a reasonable size for a mobile device without losing that much quality?

Thank you!

I just tried reducing fps to 20 but I still get a 31 MB file. I'm out of options.

Reducing frame rate doesn't make the file size smaller. Only lowering the bitrate does. However, reducing the frame rate allows you to lower the bitrate by the same amount (half frame rate, half bit rate) without losing quality (any more than what reencoding with the same framerate/bitrate will).

What is a recommended bitrate for a 320*240 resolution?

i would suggest using automen or avanti, select MP4 and a bitrate around 250 and 300 for small screens no need to pump up the bitrate. for nokias usually a 3 min video is converted to 6 megs.

i think you should try SmartMovie, it is a perfect solution for symbian OS video playing.
