I have a Sony RDR HX910 and very happy with the machine. It appears the hard disk drive was accidentally formatted. It has since be turned off with nothing added to the hard drive. Any suggestions as to how I can get back all of the programs? (approx 230GB lost I think).

Welcome sparky10000 .

Not a chance in a snow storm ... its all gone .

Pvexplorer is a tool used to extract data from pvr units .

We have some funny laws covering such devices here in the au , but everybody expects to be able to use these devices , even though they are considered illegal .

You'll get a laugh at what is "expected" by the public , and what is "illegal" .

Good grief man. One big run on sentence. If you really want to help, spend an extra few seconds and write in complete sentences. I read posts from users that can barely speak English, that are easier to understand.

The problem with data recovery is that most all DVD hard drives are formatted with many different OS systems. A good number may even be proprietary. As an example my Liteon/ilo units use fat 32 but it is tweaked for 64k cluster size. [This is an easy one]

Another example
When in the computer business a Lawyer developed HDD problems. Fortunately he stopped and did not try to correct the problem.
The drive was sent to a data recovery service by airmail, They were able to fully recover almost 80% of the files, and about 15% to 80- 90% of the files, 5% was lost.
Fortunately the files that meant the most were fully recovered.
The cost Not counting special airmail [ which was some $375] was $565.

If you know or can find out the format of your Sony and you haven’t tried to correct the problem and compounded the issue you MAY find a recovery service that will take the problem ON
Find out the price first [If that’s an issue]
