My friend has given me a usb pen drive with different files with extension mod and moi. I was able to play the video ie. mod files on my laptop but it does not play elsewhere. She has recorded it on her JVC camcorder.
1) What player or codec do I need to play it ? What does moi stand for ?
2) What software do I need to convert it to regular mpg file playable on dvd players. I would also need to edit it.
thanks !

Never heard of those, but did some google, and found that Cyberlink PowerProducer can deal with these files. The software should have come with the camcorder.
Here is the link to it in VH:

Cheers

I have owned a JVC Camcorder for about 6 months now and have had great success using VideoRedo to edit my video files. The only file(s) that I copy to my hard drive, however, is/are the .mod files. I believe that the .moi file is an index, but I don't know for certain. The great thing about VideoRedo is that you can load the .mod file, edit the video, and save it back as an mpeg which can be used to create a DVD with DVD Authoring software. I use VideoRedo for video editing and TMPGenc DVD Author for DVD creation. In tandem, the results are highly reliable.
Good Luck and have fun!
