I'm sort of a newbie and in research phase. I have some MKV files encoded with x264. these are HD files with High audio codecs (AC3 or DTS). Due to my setup to read both on mac and PC on an external hard drive, I have to keep the formatting to FAT32, problem is it limits to 4 GB per file. Some of my movies are 4.4GB-10GB.

So for the file that's 4.4 GB as a single MKV file, I want to maybe split it in 2.2. GB parcels

I would prefer to do this all on my Mac (it's a lot faster), but I will use PC if i have to.

Using the command line tool mkvtoolnix you can cut I guess. Or try avidemux...but maybe not for x264 mkvs... see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=118388
