Audio comes and goes

My boyfriend has been shooting some footage during our Easter holydays. The first time we connected the camcorder to tv, everything went just fine. So we decided to transfer the footage to dvd, by connecting the camcorder to the standalone dvd-recorder, but then, audio just comes and goes, I mean, every few seconds you've got a second with no audio at all.

I'm not used to camcorders, I'm most a PC girl, and can't figure out what is happening. It's very odd, because each time we try, the "silent seconds" appear in different places along the footage.

Any help would be much appreciated.

There's not enough information to be sure, but it might be a conflict/compatability issue between the two.

This is an extra step, but try this:
1. Connect camcorder to PC via Firewire (This is a digital camcorder right?)
2. Capture video to PC. Play Video to confirm all audio was captured.
3. Burn DVD from PC.

I never use stand alone DVD burners. While I have used them, there are too many hidden "gotchas" in the need to close the DVD, minimum video length, Audio configuration, etc. So I prefer to use the PC where I can controll everything and have a fully finished project before I ever start burning a DVD.

Thank you very much for your quick reponse. I totally agree with you, I did not buy a dvd standalone recorder, it was a gift. For what I had read on the forums, I was not wanting to have one and its headache.

Just to provide a little more information, the camcorder specifications say it takes digital video format (no other data), and, for audio, PCM. We are trying to record to dvd-vr (this is the standalone default option).

My pc is repairing, again, ugh! it has been rebooting because of heat (dual core), but when I have it back, I would like to try what you say. So another question, and I apologize in advance for the dumbness of it. I have a TV card, is this able to capture from camcorder or should I buy a proper capture card?

Hello all

I have my PC back home, and I did my very first capture of video. I first tried WinDV but did not work for me. I then tried Nero Vision Express and it did well the job. I never had used Nero for other thing that burning cd or dvd, but this time it did work well enough for me.

Audio issue must be due to the camcorder play function, since the audio is ok all the way in the minidv, and so, into the captured video.

Must author it all now, with all the pics stuff into a nice slideshow
