Sorry if this is old school for those of you lucky or unlucky to have PS3 released.
The unit is due to be released down under on Friday next.
I am told that video connections are only base band video, (yellow composite plug only) and
HDMI of which the lead must be purchased separately..
Can any one confirm no high def component out for game play? I understand the need for
HDCP protection for HD movie viewing but....game play?
Any advise would be most welcome from those in the know..

Pulled this from a few different online pages: Hope this helps
What ports and external connections will the PlayStation 3 have?
On the 20GB system, you'll find four USB 2.0 ports on the front of the system. On the back there are connectors for gigabit Ethernet, an optical audio output, HDMI output and an AV multi-out (which appears to be exactly the same as on the PS2). The 60GB system will also include inputs for Memory Stick, SD and Compact Flash cards inside a flip-up door on the front.

Had a look at a UK 60Gb model tonight. Goes something like...
Back - HDMI, LAN, optical
Front - controler x4
It was behind some thick glass so I couldn't get a proper look but here's a pic on the net.:

Thanks for the feedback, we have found the PS3 will output a Hi res output via the AV connector
out, we did have to purchase a AV Connector to Component lead but knowing the product is working
on a non HDMI set is great.
