Hi all,
i was trying to burn 3 vcds to one dvdr disk. so i used dvdlab for the purpose. everything went fine except the dvdlab preview which showed just green color and as a consequence i couldn't place any chapters(may be because it was in mpeg1 format) and no scence selection menus either. ok not much problem with that one.

but one thing bewildered me totally. the combined size of my 3 vcds for around 4.42 GBs and to my great surprise the size of the final dvd was only 1.16 GBs . now howz that possible?? the final size could have been bigger but howcome smaller than the sum of source files?

kindly explain.

PS: btw the vcd is easily playing on my standalone smile.gif

Neither size makes sense. How do 3 650 - 700 MB videos total 4.42 GB ? Or even 1.16 GB ?

How did you extract the mpeg video for use in DLP ?

oh no..let me correct u. actually the videos were in xvid format. so i had to convert them into the vcd(mpeg-1) format. after conversion there sizes were 1.38gb,1.38gb and 1.70gb so that adds up to a total of 4.46Gb..right? so now the output dvd is of 1.16gb(approx.). howcome?

oh my. i just saw that in each of those 3 videos only few minutes have been recorded...so thats the reason of that small file size.

can u pls tell me how to do vcd on dvdr using dvdlab?

i have my videos encoded in pal, fps 25 mpeg1 format.

Start from the beginning, how did you convert from xvid to mpeg?

ok so heres what i did:

i first loaded my xvid to tmpgenc and made a vcd of pal,25fps using wav as input source. i played the output and it was fine.

i followed the same steps for the remaining 2 xvids.

now i loaded one by one these mpegs to dvdlab. it said that only one error is there and that too on audio(that 44khz to 48khz) which is normal. so i transcoded it. for video it only showe a warning that dvdlab is desgined for mpeg2 and it will work with mpeg1 partially though there will be no preview available from inside dvdlab. i done all this and compiled and burned the dvd. but only first few minutes were compiled. why did dvdlab go wrong? why did it not compile the full video lengths of all mpegs? also as there was no preview of movie i could not add chapters and scenes to it.

It tells you there is no preview, so don't expect one. You can create a list of chapters in notepad (See help for the format) that you can import as a chapter list.

I do not know why it did not compile your videos, as I don't have a copy of them to look at.

also i noted the point where dvdlab is malfunctioning. when it starts demuxing the file to elementary streams it stops at around 12% and asks to transcode the audio. now why is it stoping always at 12%?

Don't know. I never work with VCD, SVCD or program streams in DLP. I always demux before working in DLP, and make sure everything is compliant first.

I suggest you demux back to elementary streams (mpeg tools in tmpgenc plus can do this for you), then use ffmpeggui to convert the audio to 192 kbps AC3, then use the video and ac3 audio streams in your project.
