Why does ffmpegx od OS-X insist on mpeg2enc.intel?

That program does not work on my eMac, it stalls. Only when i use the older mpeg2enc does it work, which is fine. However each time I start up ffmpegx, it says that I must update to the latest version (mpeg2enc.intel). There must be a problem, either with the .intel version, or with ffmepgx insisting on that version on non-intel machines.
- I am converting .avi + .srt to DVD.
