I need to make a program that will do two things. I need to capture and save small video clips, basically push a button, recording starts, push the button recording stops and a file is saved. And I will need another button that will save off a single frame from the input source, a jpg image would work best for me. This is going to be used in a medical situation, I plan on using a usb foot pedal with two buttons for input. One to start and stop the video recording and the other to save off an image. Input will be from an ATI capture card though composite.

I have done some Windows Media Encoder programming in Visual Basic before, and could probably use this to save off the video clips, but not sure about the images. Plus im just not sure if Visual Basic is really going to be up to this task. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Please someone help me, I really need some feedback here. I have be thinking about this and thought maybe If i built the VB app to capture the video clips maybe I could save a frame off to a jpg by croping a screen capture. How well do you think this would work?

Take a look at the AMCap source code included with the DirectX sdk. It should set you off in the right direction.
