After upgrading the firmware of my Philips dvp630/02 I can no longer use it for playing any DVD for more than 15 minutes before the picture starts freezing. This gradually gets worse and after half an hour or so the picture freezes totally. I have tried all firmware versions for dvp630 found on Philips' site without getting rid of the problem. During all upgrades/firmware changes I have followed Philips' instructions meticulously.

I should say that the very first upgrade I did was with the unofficial "Alec999" (v 1.2) firmware for dvp630. Anyone had similar experiences with "Alec999"? What else could be the reason for getting these playback problems after a firmware upgrade? Someone told me that it sounded like a "sync problem" although I don't really know what that would mean?

Anyone knows how to figure out what firmware version a player is shipped with after having upgraded the firmware (I unfortunately never checked that before doing the first upgrade)?

Are the playback issues occuring with store bought pressed discs or with burned discs? If it is with original discs, then the unit may need to go into the shop it if is still under warranty. If the issue is with burned discs, then it is most likely a media related issue. Try a different brand of discs.

Sounds like you have a faulty or failing player. You can get it fixed if it is still under warranty, otherwise it is most likely cheaper to just replace it.
