i just noticed on the Philips site, there's new firmware (V37.06.19.07) for the DVP5140/37B (USA version w/DivX) and was wondering if anyone has upgraded to find their ALL REGION hack has been killed?

also, does anyone know what this new firmware does? new features? etc...
the PDF file doesn't list what the firmware upgrades, so i'm a little nervous about doing it, as i NEED "All Region" playback.

The only listed changes in the PDF are 'audio performance upgrades', but who knows if they slipped something else in.

I'll probably try the new firmware this weekend when I have time, since I haven't updated my 642/5140 comparison page in ages, and I have to unhook everything to move the 5140 to where I can hook it up to my capture card to take screenshots.

Would you please try to play audio CDs after you do the firmware update and let us know if it works. The 642 will play my audio CDs but the 5140 won't. Well, I can kind of hear them but just barely.

Hey, I just updated the firmware for Philips DVP5960/37 and verified that it shows the new firmware. It still shows Region 0 and I played some Region 4 discs with no problem. I know it's not the 5140 but it's the same company. I just thought I would let you know my experience. smile.gif

I loaded the posted firmware from disc (after I had noted the PDF stated the firmware was the same version I already had), and sure enough, it's the same version that came with the player from the factory.
