Hi,

I have the Oppo OPDV971H upconverting dvd player. I'm using it with my Panasonic
TC-26LX60 HD TV. Connected via the supplied DVI to HDMI cable.
The problem I'm having is I can't get rid of the black bars on dvds.

I've tried both the widescreen and widescreen/squeeze setting on the dvd player. I've
also used the different aspect ratio settings on my tv. I can get rid of the black bars
using the zoom function on the dvd player, but that results in the loss of some of the
picture.

My question is, how can I fix this? Or is this normal? Isn't 3:2 pulldown processing
supposed to take care of this.

Thanks for the help everyone...

Pulldown has nothing to do with it. You will always have black bars on top and bottom, unless the movie is "anamorphic widescreen" or 16:9. There are other aspect ratios, and none of them will fill a 16:9 TV. Only movies made for TV or broadcast TV shows will be 16:9 and fill your screen.

Here is a good read on different aspect ratios.
