Sounds like a media issue.

Is it having trouble with pressed discs or copies? I'm guessing copies. Try a different brand/type. I've had good luck with TY and Ritek -R disks. I've used a few brands of +R discs without much success.

Firmware won't solve the problem. If there is a firmware available, it will be on the Philips website.
