Hi All,
I'm considering buying either a 970 or DVPNS90V. Anyone know if both can handle dual layer DVDRs? I thought I read here the Oppo can, what about the Sony? Any other comments from owners of either re performance & quality are appteciated. Thsnks!

Most players can handle DL media (most issues are with older models).

If you have DVI or HDMI inputs on your TV, get the Oppo 971.

Having experimented with both +R and -R DL, I would suggest you only use +R DL for best compatibility. -R DL is a kludge to make it work and my Philips DVP-642 doesn't like the -R DL discs very much, but it plays the +R DL discs OK. Also, you have to be VERY careful how you burn -R DL discs. I don't know if it's still true, but at one time not too long ago, Nero was incapable of correctly burning a -R DL disc. It would always set the layer break in the wrong place. The only way I know to burn that works is to use PgcEdit to create an ISO image and burn with ImgBurn or DVDDecrypter.

Nero still has numerous issues with DL media.
