I was considering getting this player for my daughter to watch some of her movies during the long rides in the family truckster to grandma's. I was hoping to get any feedback from anyone on the site. This is the link - -

http://www.protronusa.com/products.php?product_id=58

In case the link dont work the model number is PDS-758LP by Protron

Incase you are wondering we just got them in today at Staples for a sale that starts in the morning. Price is going to be 89.98 - 10.00 mail in rebate, supposed to retail at 119.98.

I hope I put this in the right forum, if not i'm sorry and please move!

Thanks for the help or information.

look at the display are the colors good, angle of viewing. Try a burned movie and see if it plays, Try a burned DL movie. Does it come with a cigarette lighter adapter? The advertised battery life will probably be optomistic, It will probaly play one movie. Remote? Remote battery type? Headphones? Sound quality? FM out so you can feed the sound throgh the car radio? Look at the DVD drive, does it look solid or cheesy? Analog brightness or digital via the remote or at all? Video adjustments? Accessories, TV/FM tuner? How sensative are the tuners? Warranty

I say these as they are features of the good ones I've been refurbing at work & 8.4" screen by sharp, Play NTSC & PAL Dual Layer and Divx 4/5, whereas the cheap ones have less adjustments, poorer display, less reliable DVD drive and a 7" display. The Even better ones have a DVD drive like a laptop drive and I'd expect those to be the most reliable.

They'll all have stereo speakers (Whee! a 1" speaker) FM Output can be very handy if more than one person is watching.

I've seen the decent ones on Ebay at $150 to $200.

FWIW The ones I have been refurbing it's been for things like cracked screen, inverter failed, Antenna broke, some DVD drives, Mobos etc. But overall they seem decent build quality.

Differences are also that the cheap ones the finish doesn't hold up. IOW you do get what you pay for.

Good luck
