Hello All,

I just got a Epson EMP-TWD1 (DVD + Video Projector + surround speakers all in one).
I am wondering how to make it region free. Anyone?

(btw: it is a great machine, super simple to use, no need to run cables and wires around the house, you can hook up external video sources like video game consoles... and it is also very easy to carry around)

Thanks for your help!

Eliogabalo, Andrew,

also trying to find out how to set the EMP-TWD1 to region-free - so far to no avail.
Have you meanwhile found a solution or approach?

all - any hint would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, HPf

Hi all,

Did you guys find a way to unlock it? I have spent now a fair bit of time looking on the internet for hacks, unlock codes for the Epson Moviemate 25 but no luck so far.

What I found so far was that there should be a JVC DVD player inside. If you detach the speaker covers you can see two screws that unhook the part with the display. Behind it you will see a serial number that says XV-PJ5KIT.

I could not open the rest of the machine without being afraid that I would damage anything. (I still have two screws left but its working) If there is anyone out there who has more info on the dvd player than please speak up.

I found some unlock codes to some JVC players here http://www.ssrichardmontgomery.com/dvd_unlock/dvd_unlock_ijkl.htm
I tried most of them but sadly they didn't work. Please test it out yourselves to avoid any errors from my side..

In a last attempt I also tried calling the Epson helpdesk to change the region code (region code free) but (was to be expected but my last resort) they couldn't/didn't want to help me. realmad.gif

There should be a way to unlock this thing. Maybe other users who have a Moviemate 30s (or a newer?) had some luck and want to share it than please.

I hope that one of the search engines picks up this string so that there is more traffic and that will help our cause. Lets get back to this site to check up.

I like the machine as well. I bought it fairly cheap on a sale and so far it has been a good purchase for the money. I do think that in a year or two when the lightbulb is finished I will get a smaller one but it serves its purpose right now. I'm in a new apartment and I project it straight on a wall and that did not distort the view. But then again I'm a newby at this projector thing so I wouldn't notice the difference anyway smile.gif

Regards,

Cyberno

Cyberno,
thanks for your insights. Finding out which model(s) JVC DVD players Epson puts inside should not be so difficult - although a quck look on Google didn't reveal it to me.
I'm looking for the unlocking trick for a friend who has the MovieMate. I'll try to talk him into looking under the hood.
regards, HPf

Hi HPf,

How's it going. Did you have any luck finding out what kind of JVC player is in it?

Cheers,

Cyberno

Dear Cyberno,

Can you take picture of XV-PJ5KIT PCB with clear Chip model? I know some major IC supplier in Taiwan. Maybe they can help on this.

I also have an EMP-TWD1 and have been very happy with it, apart from the region lock.

After scouring the web, the only post I found that seemed to offer a potential solution was this one:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-255076.html

However, I am a bit reticent to use this hack without further information. Anyone with a bit more knowledge reckon this looks legit?

It did work for me! Here you will find pictures of the my Moviemate 25, just so you can compare model numbers, etc.

The procedure was easy:

1. Create the CD as described
2. Insert disk into the unit and wait. No visible feedback, just wait and after approx 2 min the unit will turn off and you will hear a couple of beeps.
3. Pop in a DVD from a different region and enjoy.

Kudos to whoever provided that hack!

I had good success using the same above method to make Moviemate 30 Region free (download the EMP-TWD1 hack, burn to CD etc)

I was not confident at first as I could not find label on DVD player.

After a couple of months use I found that I could confirm the DVD player model was XVPJ5 by holding down power button and play button whist switching on projector until the screen showed Test JC1, then pressing the source button a couple of times to switch on bulb. The model details were then projected.

(Various other set up codes and checks can be accessed by pressing menu on remote once JC1 is displayed, then the number buttons seem to change settings but I could not figure out anything productive)

Thanks...I can now enjoy all my DVDs again. I really like this projector.

aef1970. In order for the player to recognize the files they need to be in the root directory on the CD. Take the files out of the folder and drop onto the icon of the CD writer in your PC.

Hi, need help! Have done the update with the files attached, and now it would appear my region 1 unit is a region 2 unit!! Not region free. Anyone else come across this? I want to read both types of region DVDs. At worst case I want to go back to Region 1. HELPPPPP!!!
